Who’s Most Transparent in Retail?

Fashion Revolution is proud to present The Fashion Transparency Index 2020, a review of 200 of the biggest global fashion brands and retailers ranked according to how much they disclose about their social and environmental policies, practices and impacts.

Transparency is one of our six dimensions on our Retail Innovation Scorecard, which is why we are always excited for the release of the Fashion Revolution Transparency Index. The 2020 version was released this week. Walking the talk is not only the right thing to do, but it’s becoming one of the core reasons for purchase. More than 50% of millennials research prior to buying and 42% want to know what goes into the product and how it’s made (BoF study) before making a purchase decision. So how did the brands stack up? H&M is clearly doing something right, whereas Max Mara and Tom Ford are abysmal at zero.

What would happen if we only shopped at the top 20 transparent brands or only at brands above the 50th percentile on the index? When we as consumers have evidence at our fingertips, we have the choice.
